Soft skills are in high demand and in a world dominated by automation, they will be even more essential in the upcoming years. The latest “Future Jobs Ireland 2019” report published by the Government of Ireland highlighted the importance of soft skills for the constant development of the Irish market. “The revolution in automation and digital technologies is radically reshaping the industry. Given the current and accelerating move towards automation and AI, it is likely that Ireland will need to rebalance its skills mix towards the most in-demand, for example, advanced cognitive and social and emotional skills”, states the report.

Skills such as the ability to communicate well, organisational, self-motivation, time management, emotional intelligence among others, are critical to succeed in the modern work environment. The “what workers want Ireland report 2019” published by Hays Recruitment found out that emotional intelligence is a foremost consideration for 43% of employers in Ireland, while 41% prioritize critical thinking for future roles. These are the type of skills that can be developed through training and by being exposed to leadership and professional development best practices.
