- What are my most important values and goals?
- How will this decision affect those most important to me?
Find Your Answers
It seems to say, but not easy to put in practice. The most relevant tip here is to calm your mind to create a good environment so your brain can work to figure out good answers. Some ways that you can facilitate this process:
- Practice deep breathing exercises, like those recommended in meditation practices. It’s scientifically proven that they help set up the brain for success.
- Take a light jog or go for a walk.
- Take a warm shower or a relaxing bath.
- Ask yourself a question just before you go to sleep and notice what may arise in your dreams or just before you wake up (your brain works while you sleep).
Evaluate Answers and Decisions
Before putting into practice any decision you might take based on your thinking process, it’s a good idea to evaluate what you’ve concluded so far.
- Does it feel “right” more than just feel “good”.
- Is this good for others and me?
- Do the rewards outweigh the risks?
- Is this the best decision over the long term?
Apply the Decisions
Once, the steps above are completed you will probably feel much more comfortable to apply your decisions. Below some tips from Dr. Friedland:
- Rehearse in your mind what to say beforehand (practice breathing if you feel stressed).
- Make sure you are well-rested, hydrated and nourished before taking action.
- Set a date and time to take action.

At this moment it’s recommended to reflect if the right decision was made if you have achieved what you have hoped for.
